Marcel Duchamp has manipulated the aesthetics of his “Ready-mades” to create an aesthetic experience. In his readymade “Fountain”, 1917, the letters “R. Mutt, 1917” are simply inscribed onto an upturned male urinal and placed into an exhibition. Although the urinal itself does not seem to have much visual appeal, these communicate his ideas of removing art from its high pedestal. Phillip B Meggs from his article “The Politics of Style” mentions, “Form (style) and communication (message) have a yin-yang relationship.” I have finally come to realize that as much as the aesthetic is important in a design, the way it communicates is essential. The only solution is to build upon my arsenal and have a range of different styles that will better fit differing constraints for communicating a particular message.
